Media reports in the United States say investigators have identified the suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings from video footage. The reports said the authorities had the image of the suspect carrying a bag at one of the bomb sites. Some news agencies are reporting the suspect has been taken into custody, but BBC has not been able to confirm these reports. An official announcement from the FBI is expected in the coming hours. 3 people were killed and more than 170 injured in the blasts.
Meanwhile the FBI in the United States has said preliminary tests indicated that the latter addressed to President Obama tested positive for a substance thought to be the deadly poison ricin. But the FBI said there was no indication that the letter was connected to the bomb attacks in Boston.
The funeral has held at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London for the former British Prime Minister Margret Thatcher. Queen Elizabeth led more than 2,000 mourners from around the world.
Egypt’s public prosecutor has ordered the deposed president Hosni Mubarak to be sent to prison from a military hospital following an apparent improvement in his health. Mr. Mubarak looked relaxed on Saturday during his first public appearance for ten months, smiling and waving during his aborted retrial.
President Bashar al-Assad of Syria has accused western countries of backing Al-Qaida in his country and warned they will pay a heavy price in Europe and the United Stated as the militant become emboldened. Mr. Assad was speaking in a Syrian television interview.
The trail has been opened in France of 5 people charged with supplying faulty breast implant to hundreds of thousands of women worldwide. The company’s founder Jean-Claude Mas was doomed in court. It alleged that he fraudulently sold implant made of silicon unfit for human use.
And the Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has set up a committee to talk to the Islamist militant group B, with the hope of ending its insurgency in the north of the country. The committee is expected to come up with the plans that granting an amnesty and disarming the Islamist militants. |
