The U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has addressed thousands of mourners sat in the memorial service in Boston for the police officer killed during the man-hunt for the two suspects in the Marathon bombings. Mr. Biden described the two men as twisted cowardly jihadist, and said the United States refused to yield to fear.   


The eleventh century minaret of the Great Mosque in the city of Aleppo has been destroyed in fighting between Syrian government forces and rebels. Both sides have blamed each other. Meanwhile the Orthodox Church officials in Aleppo say two bishops who were kidnaped by gunmen on Monday are still missing. This contradicts the report on Tuesday that Yohanna Ibrahim and Boulos Yaziji have been released.

Swiss plans to restrict immigration from European Union countries have provoked strong criticism from the EU. The blocks from policy archives said the plans were in violation of an agreement Switzerland has signed up to. At that moment restrictions only applied to the Union’s new eastern numbers, but Switzerland wants to extend them to all other EU countries.  

Rescuers have spent the night searching for survivors in the rubble of collapse clothing factory building outside the Bangladesh capital D. Teams are working to reach people trapped inside, some screaming for help. Around one hundred people were killed and more than a thousand injured in the eight-story building collapsed on Monday.  

And the Islamist accused of plotting to derail a passenger train in Canada has disputed the authority of Canadian court to judge him. The Tunisian student told the court in Toronto that he didn’t recognize his jurisdiction as the Canada’s Criminal Code was not a holy book.   

In European football’s Premier clubs competition, the champion’s league Borussia Dortmund of Germany have frustrated Real Madrid 4-1, to made them clear favorites to reach the final.
